Jaguar to Build Hybrid C-X75 Supercar
It’s official: Jaguar confirmed that it will team up with Williams F1 to build a hybrid supercar successor to its XJ220 model, a follow-through on the stunning concept car that debuted at the Paris auto show in 2010. The C-X75 is expected to top out over 200 miles per hour, with a 0-60 time under 3 seconds, making this the fastest Jaguar of all time. Don’t all supercars have giant, polluting engines? Not anymore. GET TO KNOW “THE GLOW BRICK”
We’re not sure if this counts as a gadget, but we love it. The Glow Brick is a clever little cordless light made from a phosphorescent lightbulb (yes, a REAL lightbulb) embedded in a block of acrylic. It requires no electricity and can glow for up to three hours, “powered” only by light it soaks up from the sun or other artificial light sources, making it as energy-efficient and eco-friendly as it is engaging. (Warning: this is more of a nightlight than a “lamp” – i.e. it is not very bright). $35 from Uncommon Goods...
PEOPLE TOWELS OFFER A PEOPLE FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE
The concept of “disposable” items is one that we try to regularly offer alternatives to here at GreenJAR. As we all know very well by now, there is no “away” and the fact that as consumers, we continue to offer a demand for one-time use goods, is something that we need to take responsibility for – change the demand (give them no demand!) and the market will shift accordingly. That’s why we were so excited to meet with the founders of PeopleTowels at this year’s Opportunity Green conference, to get a first glance at the new stylish, reusable towels. Made of 100%...

HOMES MADE OUT OF RECYCLED PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES
Whenever we think of a shelter, from construction to habitation, we crave to beautify it with the best we have at our disposal. Since most of us have neither the resources nor funds to realize our aspirations, why don’t we utilize the superfluous scraps? I am talking about the items that we generally consider as trash: more specifically, the plastic bottles. Using them constructively, eco-creators have fashioned certain eco-homes that simply defy the limits of affordable and sustainable housing. Here we have listed some of them, marvelously made abodes –miracles of recycling – that you would sure love to inhabit....

ECO NATION & TERRACYCLE TRANSFORM SNACK BAGS IN2 UPCYCLED GADGETS
TerraCycle has been rocking the upcycling world for a while now by collecting trash from their consumers to make colorful accessories from packaging. Now they’ve teamed up with EcoNation to make a chicer version of their existing designs, and a few new gadgets that we’d like to get our hands on. We tested them out at the Go Green Expo in New York City. The line includes passive iPod speakers, iPhone cases and digital card readers. Cool and Gorgeous Perpetual Mechanical Watch Costs Nearly $600,000
Image via Hodinkee This is one of the first watches I’ve ever seen that made me almost want to wear a watch. Well, until I saw the price tag. Yet despite that, it has some great design principles we love, including using solar and perpetual motion to keep the battery charged as well as being crafted for quality and longevity. This is the kind of heirloom design we love to see. Wristwatch Review points us to Hodinkee, which writes of the Sol Invictus, “This timepiece has taken the now iconic chain and fusée, drums and vertical tourbillon from the WTV and combined...

SAN FRANCISCO’S ELECTRIC CAR SWAG
I was recently in San Francisco and couldn’t help but jump for joy when I saw two parking spaces designated specifically for electric car charging and parking. Weird how there are so many electric cars out there, yet this was the first time I ever came across such a parking space in a pubic garage. Not only was the ground marked in bold with “GREEN PARKING” but it was also one of the most convenient parking spaces in the lot. Just goes to show you people, another incentive to go green : ). *San Francisco Airport Parking Lot...
ECO FRIENDLY NOKIA PHONE BY DAIZI ZHENG
Chinese designer Daizi Zheng (whose Stereotype Food Packaging we have featured yesterday) has created a conceptual mobile phone for Finnish brand Nokia that could be powered by sugary drinks. Zheng proposes that the phone could run on a battery that uses enzymes to generate electricity from carbohydrates. This is a client project for designing an eco friendly phone for Nokia. Throughout my research, I found that using a phone battery as a power source is very expensive, consumes valuable resources on manufacturing, presents a disposal problem and is harmful to the environment. The concept is using a bio battery to replace the traditional...
