Old Jeans Get The Boot: LEVI’S Make Reused Jeans Shoes!
Lurking amongst Levi’s new Red Tab footwear collection is their Reused Jean Shoe. Basically a Converse style sneaker styled around “pre-loved authentic Levi’s jeans.” Apparently it takes a couple of pairs to make a pair, with many of the components of the famous pants being incorporated into the shoes, from coin-pocket, yellow stitching, belt loops to the fly stud button. Each pair is said to be unique. We aren’t sure where they come by the used jeans, but maybe we do know one possible place where they may just have sourced them. They might be the leftovers from another...
YVES SAINT LAURENT Recycles Old Looks Into New
Hot on the heels of its limited-edition organic cotton collection for Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s Home, one of luxury fashion’s old guard is dipping its toes even further—if ever so gingerly—into the sustainable style pool. Today, Yves Saint Laurent will be unveiling “New Vintage,” an eco-friendly capsule collection comprising remnant fabric from past collections that has been adapted to the French fashion house’s classic silhouettes.  To be sold exclusively at Barneys New York—one of eco-fashion’s staunchest supporters, thanks to the influence of fashion director Julie Gilhart—”New Vintage” will present the perfect wardrobe by way of YSL, with dip-dyed bustier dresses, embroidered trench coats, a litany of...
KAIJA: Glamorous, Global & Green
This is the first time I have seen fashion and eco-sensibility come together in a tasteful and flawless way in a very long time, if not the first. Especially in the accessory world: Kaija has created a line of totes and clutches that are handcrafted from organic and eco-friendly materials- yet are truly the ultimate in sophistication and style for accessories addicts everywhere. Designer Khrisna Justo established Kaija in an effort to empower women in every community. Kaija, pronounced “kah-yah,” means “able”- a word which spurred Justo’s original inspiration to create the brand. During a visit to the Philippines, she...
RIDE in STYLE: GUCCI v. CHANEL v. HERMES
The newest trend from high-end designers is posh bicycles. Why does GreenJAR.net love this, because hey, you can spare the air the effects of guzzling gases and CO2 emissions while maintaining that swaggerlicious style of yours. And the best part about all of these bicycles is that they are cruisers. Because a $17,000 cruiser makes more sense than a $17,000 road bike, right?  Well regardless of the price, it is without a doubt that these bikes are true reflections of (overpriced) eco-fashion at it’s finest. Art you can actually travel with.  First let us introduce you to the HERMES Bicycle,...
Queen of Green: CAMERON DIAZ
Cameron Diaz supports environmental awareness as she takes the June 2009 cover of Vogue magazine. In the interview, the 36-year-old actress talks about her movie career, her childhood, her upcoming film, My Sister’s Keeper and a whole lot more. On her movie career: “It’s been fifteen years now, and I really feel like I’m just understanding it. You know, the toolbox is just taking shape.”...
N.E.R.D X H&M: Fighting AIDS With Sustainable Fashion
I’m sure you’ve already caught eye and ear of swedish fast-fashion retailer H&M  gathering together a bevy of bold-face names from the worlds of fashion, music, and style to throw their collective clout behind the fight against AIDS. Cyndi Lauper, Yoko Ono, Dita Von Teese, N.E.R.D., Moby, and Katy Perry are among the artists who have collaborated with H&M and Designers Against AIDS on a collection of graphic tees, dresses, bodysuits, and vests, but did you know that it is all made from 100 percent organic cotton?!!! Well now you do! “The second annual Fashion Against AIDS collection, which has...
KEDS Launches GREEN Label & Website
Socially conscience kicks are steady on the come-up. Nearly every manufacturer is coming up with new eco-friendly ideas, the footwear industry, better late then never, is only 10+ years behind the idol-like leader of green movement, the Toyota Prius. KEDS is the latest company to get in on the growing trend to “go green” with their aptly named, Keds Green Label. The Green Label Keds are simple silhouettes made of 100% organic materials including non-toxic inks and dyes, nickel free eyelets, and recycled insoles. Quality is not compromised, as these kicks are ISO-9001 certified. What makes Green Label Green? -...
LVMH X EDUN
PARIS (Reuters) – LVMH (LOUIS VUITTON MOET HENNESSY) is to take a minority stake in Edun, the ecological and ethical fashion start-up founded by Irish singer and campaigner Bono and his wife, the world’s biggest luxury group said on Thursday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. “We are proud to contribute to the operational development of Edun and to the improvement of living standards of local communities,”...
“$OLAR Cases Were Borin’ B4 I Wore Em'”
Solar Chargers …Stylish? Sometimes it seems like you have to learn an entirely new language to understand what is going on with the environment and the technologies that are being created in order for us to adapt to these changes in the most positive and sustainable way possible.  Unfortunately a lot of these products are not the most swagger filled. But in the words of the wise Mr. KANYE WEST, “Ralph Lauren was borin’ before I wore him.” Can the same be applied to eco-gadgetry? I recently came across a couple different models of Solar Cases that are actually pretty dope. They...
LOUIS VUITTON: Sustainable $tyle
We’ve all seen them, the LOUIS VUITTON ads featuring the likes of CATHERINE DENEUVE, ANDRE AGASSI & STEFFI GRAF, & MICHAIL GORBACHEV in support of the Green Cross International and The Climate Project. They certainly caught our attention back in 2007. So we were INCREDIBLY impressed to find how deep Louis Vuitton’s committment and efforts have truly reached since then. In their recent report “Naturally Creative“, they take a moment away from their fast-paced industry of travel and accessories to sit down and reflect on how, as YVES CARCELLE, President of LOUIS VUITTON puts it, “simple actions make big differences”. Like any company starting down the sustainability...
