Heineken has always been clever with its beer bottles; Warren has written how in the sixties they considered redesigning them to work as bricks. Now in China, they are using them to build Christmas trees; Recylart considered it recycling but a sharp-eyed commenter noted that they were full and capped. The recycling begins after Christmas and will probably be a great deal of fun *Seen in front of the Nanjing road mall in Shanghai. HIT FROM: Treehugger.com...

In fact, it sounds downright awesome. It is made from a material developed by CyberPaccalled “harmless-dissolve” (no, seriously…that’s what it’s called) and it dissolves in hot water, making it completely zero waste. Instructions on the bag tell readers that all you have to do is cut off the biodegradable glue strip, put the bag in hot water, and Voila! it’s gone. No waste, no guilt about packaging. Now, there are some big questions...

With normal solar cells, you need direct sunlight for them to generate power, and if the panels are at all shaded the efficiency drops significantly. A new type of solar cell, being developed in Jerusalem, is making huge waves because it can generate power from diffuse light using a specialized colored panel. They look a bit like colored plexi-glass but are actually panes made with fluorescent dyes and nanoparticle metals, and could possibly eclipse traditional solar panels in terms of price. The smarter panel is being developed by GreenSun Energy, a Tel Aviv-based energy start-up. The new solar panels also use 80%...
Warning Signs 4U2C, the latest art project by John Fekner, is a brand new collection of pieces that have never been published before. While green is popular today, through the images of 25 Warning Signs 4U2C, Fekner questions how much has really changed, “Toxic dumps of the 70s just have cleaner sounding names like brownfields. Somestimes it seems like nothing has changes in the twenty-five years.”...
