Doc Marten has officially come out with an all new vegan line of your favorite classics: the popular 1460 8-Eye boot, and the 3-Eye Gibson shoe. The new line called “Vegan 1460,” is a promising and happy development, for animal loving doc marten fans such as myself. Both styles, high and low come in black and fall’s trendy oxblood. The shoes are made of “Felix Rub Off” material, in other words fake leather.
Some of you might remember an entire vegan line Doc Marten used to have back in the day which came to a sad end. On 1 April 2003, under pressure from declining sales, the Dr. Martens company ceased all production in the United Kingdom, with production moved to China and Thailand. With this change also came the end of the company’s vegan-friendly non-leather products, which were produced since the early 1990s.
Here’s a product description from Doc Marten:
The iconic silhouette, recognized throughout the world for uncompromising looks, durability, and comfort is once again pushing the envelope. With the same good looks and construction the Dr. Martens Vegan 1460 8 Eye now offers an alternative. This vegan certified boot is offered is a non-leather upper which is soft and supple and has a two tone finish. The air-cushioning insole provides underfoot comfort and sewn and heat sealed construction gives dependable durability. Find a more natural feeling with all the same comfort and constructions standards we love about Dr. Martens in the Vegan 1460 8 Eye boot.
Like any market, the green market thriving depends entirely on the consumer. If there is a demand, there is a supply. Hopefully people will be into the re-release of Doc Marten’s vegan line so that it is here to stay this time!
Poor quality smelling pleather, bad fit, Made in China, too bad Doc Martens is not back with higher standards. The price though is the one of Made in England leather boots…
