When it comes to kicks, the rarer the better. And if you’re looking for originality, we guarantee you won’t find another pair quite like these upcycled junk-metal Jordans by artist Gabriel Dishaw. He whips metal and electronic scraps from old computers into crazy DIY shoe sculptures that will have any sneakerhead foaming at the mouth. We don’t advise wearing them due to the jagged edges, but they’re certain to be conversation starters when placed strategically on your coffee table. Dishaw takes found pieces of useless metal to create something everyone can relate to. “I begin each sculpture with an idea of how can...

Things like Skittles bags, Capri Sun pouches and Cliff Bar wrappers become folder, lunch boxes, note books and even gift bows. They have a full line of products and cleaning supplies for home, office, school and pets. If you haven’t heard of them, check out the company’s SITE for a quick overview. Seriously, I’m obsessed. Want to see the stuff up close? Now...
The concept of “disposable” items is one that we try to regularly offer alternatives to here at GreenJAR. As we all know very well by now, there is no “away” and the fact that as consumers, we continue to offer a demand for one-time use goods, is something that we need to take responsibility for – change the demand (give them no demand!) and the market will shift accordingly. That’s why we were so excited to meet with the founders of PeopleTowels at this year’s Opportunity Green conference, to get a first glance at the new stylish, reusable towels. Made of 100%...

Whenever we think of a shelter, from construction to habitation, we crave to beautify it with the best we have at our disposal. Since most of us have neither the resources nor funds to realize our aspirations, why don’t we utilize the superfluous scraps? I am talking about the items that we generally consider as trash: more specifically, the plastic bottles. Using them constructively, eco-creators have fashioned certain eco-homes that simply defy the limits of affordable and sustainable housing. Here we have listed some of them, marvelously made abodes –miracles of recycling – that you would sure love to inhabit....
or all you NYC eco-nuts who end up running to Duane Reade when you run out of… um…. anything, you’ll be thrilled to hear the shelves look a little bit greener these days. I stopped in this morning (lost my Burt’s Bees lip balm and simply cannot be without it) and was pleasantly surprised to see more environmentally friendly options in many sections. The chain now carries No. 5 toilet paper and tissues, which is 75% Tree Free made from a sugar cane by-product (hey, I’ll try it!), Method cleaning products, BPA-free water bottles and a ton more.
