With a fresh, colorful, and smart cover like this how can you not be intrigued to listen to the mixtape! Clearly fitting for good friend, environmental activist, artist, author, musician, style guru, and etiquette connoisseur Fonzworth Bentley and his new mixtape, C.O.L.O.U.R.S. released just last week! The full project features 17 tracks in all, from previously released favorites “Everybody” f/ Kanye West & Andre 3000, “Fireside Chat”, and most recently “Believe It” f/ Faith Evans and “Venice Beaches”. The mixtape starts off on the right foot with “CLRS5″ and “Runaway” featuring Blush (no, not another remix of Kanye’s) and continues with its distinct flow throughout. Favorites include the...
Green Graffiti (Green Graffiti) is a crazy cool idea. What is it? A sustainable alternative to traditional outdoor advertising. That means, the ad’s you usually see on buses, bus stops, outside buildings, on Broadway(NY)/Sunset(LA) are not sustainable methods of advertising. Why? Because advertising is taxing on the environment. The printing process uses harmful substances such as petrolium based inks and varnishes, not to mention the toxic chemicals used to clean the presses. And then there is the issue of paper; the energy used to produce and transport it with a large majority of it ending up in landfills as waste....
We’re not sure if this counts as a gadget, but we love it. The Glow Brick is a clever little cordless light made from a phosphorescent lightbulb (yes, a REAL lightbulb) embedded in a block of acrylic. It requires no electricity and can glow for up to three hours, “powered” only by light it soaks up from the sun or other artificial light sources, making it as energy-efficient and eco-friendly as it is engaging. (Warning: this is more of a nightlight than a “lamp” – i.e. it is not very bright). $35 from Uncommon Goods...
There was a golden age when the expansive hood of the American automobile could double as a picnic table. Thankfully, engine compartments have conformed to smaller motors and superior aerodynamics, but why give up the pleasure of dining (or making out) on the hood of an American classic just because you drive a Honda Fit? Joel Hester, in his Dallas-based Weld House, is scrounging the scrap yards of Texas and turning grizzled steel into tables, beds, armoires, and more. Hester’s most enchanting creations are his coffee and end tables, which start at $700 (check out his gallery on Flickr). Working...
What makes the new NEW BALANCE 070 ECO SHOE so squeaky green: The 070 fits together like a kind of puzzle to reduce waste. The outsole features a rice husk fill that decreases the amount of rubber used in the production of the shoe. The insert, as well as all synthetics, are made from recycled materials. The upper materials use a combination of recycled polyester and natural materials. The upper is also designed so that everything has a symmetrical opposite. This was done to minimize waste as much as possible when cutting the material for the shoes. What...
We are all in some way or another attached to Brasil: whether it be the beautiful women, the beaches, the drinks, the music, the energy…I’m very connected to Brasil having spent some time living abroad in South America. When I learned that the environmental community in Sao Paulo is protesting over a project to improve traffic that is taking over thousands of trees at the margins of the Tiete river I thought I’d share. Protestants say that the work is only going to improve speed by little while spending too much money, and that the new ways will be obsolete when...

With the help of things like rice bran wax and olive esters, Sephora claims their Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 natural mascara by Tarte will not only lengthen and thicken your lashes but it will also condition them while you work. We took their challenge. Lights, Camera Lashes! is called a 4-in-1 mascara because it is claimed to “1. lengthen, 2. curl, 3. volumize and 4. condition” your lashes while you are partying, working or just making your way out in this big old world. The “new” ingredients are supposedly what makes the difference. Rice bran wax helps lengthen lashes, carnauba...
BE@RBRICK has gone ECO! Yup! Thats right! If you don’t already know, Be@rbrick is a collectible toy designed and produced by MediCom Toy Incorporated. The name comes from the fact that the figure is a cartoon-style representation of a bear, and that it is a variation of MediCom’s Kubrick design. With that said Be@rbricks are produced in limited numbers, and are never re-released (aka collector’s items) which means they co$t mucho paper. The most fun part of purchasing one (not that I would know!) is that they are most often sold individually in “blind box” assortments – where the only way to know which particular...
