ith the precarious state of ecosystems throughout the world today, it is difficult to know for certain which threatened species will continue to be around for future generations–and which will have gone the way of the Dodo. But as sobering of a legacy that may be, it is increasingly important to raise awareness of these fading animals early and often to the children of today, whose attitudes and actions as adults may determine the fate of the planet’s biodiversity. So, with that in mind, one zoo is educating its young visitors about the importance of preservation in an imaginative way–with an exhibition of...
co-friendly consultants are sure to turn green with envy when they see Andrea Romani’s brilliant Ecological Business Card design. The concept consists of a simple stamp that can be used to print contact information upon virtually any recycled material. The clever concept is economical and not only cuts down on manufacturing costs and energy waste, but also re-uses materials that are already on the road to being tossed away. ut on those galoshes and get ready for some culture! New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) recently welcomed “Rising Currents: Projects for New York’s Waterfront” – an exhibit showcasing five versions of New York City after sea levels rise. According to MoMA’s site: An architects-in-residence program at P.S.1 brings together five interdisciplinary teams, including Architecture Research Office (ARO), to re-envision the coastlines of New York and New Jersey around New York Harbor and to imagine new ways to occupy the harbor itself with adaptive “soft” infrastructures that are sympathetic to the needs of a sound ecology. s mentioned last week, as the weather begins to warm up, a new fashion mood is blossoming at H&M. This spring will see a women’s collection of floral and feminine fashion in sustainable materials. Not to mention everything was priced lower than anything else you would normally buy there. Finally! I was extremely surprised. Basically I tried on everything! But I must say…...
TerraCycle has been rocking the upcycling world for a while now by collecting trash from their consumers to make colorful accessories from packaging. Now they’ve teamed up with EcoNation to make a chicer version of their existing designs, and a few new gadgets that we’d like to get our hands on. We tested them out at the Go Green Expo in New York City. The line includes passive iPod speakers, iPhone cases and digital card readers. The new EcoNation accessories come in one uniform shade of grey. The plastic in the gadgets is created by melting down snack bags into tiny pellets and using the pellets to create...
CCS student Andrew Kim’s Coke bottle redesign is an ambitious take on the iconic bottle, going square in the name of eco-friendliness. The new bottle shape would take up far less space in shipping pallets per bottle, and a push-up in the bottom large enough to accommodate the cap of the bottle beneath it would enable stacking. Said cap is offset for better drinkability. Another interesting design feature is that underneath the label, the bottle is ribbed so that it can compress like an accordion, taking up even less space when it’s time to go into the recycling truck. As a...
