screen-shot-2010-03-01-at-33751-am

The Good Vibrations Festival is a yearly week long festival, February 12th-21st, that takes place during Australia’s summer in the following cities: Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth. The artists for this years show were carefully handpicked and notably varied across the spectrum, ensuring a good time for a diverse crowd of all ages; where old school met its new school counterpart. This years festival was host to The Killers, Basement Jaxx, Armand Van Helden, Gossip, Salt-N-Pepa, Friendly Fries, Busta Rhymes, Z-Trip, Kid Cudi, Naughty By Nature, Plump DJs, Gym Class Heroes, Chase and Status, Craze, Dave Seaman, Chuckie, Art vs. Science, BlueJuice, Spinderella, Bass Kleph, Sam Obernik, KillaQueenz & Sydney Local Artists, all hosted my SlimKid3.

Creator of GVF, Justin Hemmes, made sure that there was never a dull moment for the concert goers or more honestly labeled – addicts of good music. The festival took place from early afternoon to late evening providing Aussies and tourists alike with an entire day filled with musical acts housed under five different tents, good food, and of course good drink! And this year in particular – good environmental initiative.

In addition to a vibrant show filled with your favorite old school jams, new cult classics, and ragetastic melodies and mixes the Good Vibrations Festival made it an imperative to condone environmental responsibility by implementing the “I’m Picking Up Good Vibrations” green initiative. This program urged concert goers to be responsible for their own trash (drink containers) and dispose of it wisely. The winner of the initiative, he or she who recycled the most plastic byproduct received A LIFETIME DOUBLE PASS to the Good Vibrations Festival + a one off $1000 CASH prize!

***This initiative is note worthy because it goes to show how environmental imperative can cross paths with music, events and concerts in particular where there are high volumes of waste generated. No genre of music nor continent is disconnected from this movement.
