Teen Diaries Online is always on point with knowing just what information to direct your way. They asked me to write up a little guide to some ways to incorporate green living into your dorm! Check it out: Just about everyone is back to school, whether your starting a new year at home in high school or away at college you can always keep the environment at the fore front of your home design style game. There are ways you don’t have to sacrifice your personal taste or style for the environment. So kick back and check out my guide to EAZ-E GREEN LIVING:
1. Lets start with the little things. What about paper? Toilet paper? Paper towels? These are all things we might overlook when we are shopping for our apartments, dorm rooms, etc. We are used to sticking with the basics. But guess what its 2009. Green is Basic! And its also affordable and unnoticeably different than the brands you are used to. I love SEVEN GENERATION PRODUCTS. (www.seventhgeneration.com) Not only can I find them at any grocery store, but just about every DUANE READE and RITE AID carries their home products as well, making it virtually impossible to ignore.
2. I bet you are thinking that eco sheets must be like recycled paper, thin and uncomfortable. Wrong! Some of my closest friends were using sheets and towels made from organic cotton or bamboo cotton long before I knew about it. Why? Because it is actually a standard material found at your local Bed Bath & Beyond, Macys, Pottery Barn, etc… And they use 25% less insecticides than normal cotton! So comfy you might not even realize it’s not EGYPTIAN! And more affordable I must say….
3. Lets get serious with lighting people! As a girl it’s important that I always have the best lighting to get used to. I would die if I woke up one morning knowing my light bulb went out and I had to use god forbid natural lighting to do my make up. With flourscent lighting, not only does it do the environment good, but they last longer, so they save our wallet some cash, and let us feel on the safe side when it comes to being assured that it will always be there for us.
4. Every now and then I like to buy one new piece of furniture for my apartment. It makes me feel like I have a brand new home even though I haven’t had to put out the money it would take to do a total make over. It is more like an energy/vibe make over. I’ll buy some new candles, a new pillow, maybe a new vase with some fresh plants. And I feel like there is a whole new start to my year. Here are some of the quality eco brands/products I like to rely on when it comes to small home accessories.
