Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up the rights to the No Impact Man documentary, based on the compulsive blog, that we’ve all been waiting for. Oscilloscope is the distribution label started by Adam Yauch, a.k.a. MCA, founding member of the Beastie Boys and a vocal environmental advocate (remember that movie he distributed about water that provoked Nestle in 2008?).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yauch said, in regard to No Impact Man, it was “the first time I’ve seen an environmentally concerned film with a strong comedic element. I still think about it every time I go to the supermarket.”
Back in February, Oscilloscope also bought the rights to The Garden, a documentary about the struggle to sustain the nation’s largest community garden which is in South Central L.A. IndieWire quoted Yauch as saying “Urban gardens, especially those that provide a source of food, are so rare that it’s painful to see how they can be crushed by the greed of an entitled few.”
