Designer Rachel Roy truly believes that giving is better then receiving. Roy is gifting the children of Ghana education through OrphanAid Africa, a nonprofit organization supporting orphans and vulnerable children through education, care reform and developmental programs. Roy’s limited-edition Ghana clutch ($49), part of her on-going “Kindness is Always Fashionable” campaign, will donate 100 percent of proceeds to OrphanAid Africa. The clutch is currently sold out on her website but is available through retail partners! Get it before it’s gone!

ECO BRAND ADIDAS SLVR SPRING/SUMMER VIDEO

Adidas has released a video offering a sneak peek at its fashionable and sustainable SLVR Spring/Summer 2012 line with a bit of fencing action.

The new adidas SLVR Spring/Summer 2012 campaign, shot by Willy Vanderperre, takes inspiration from the sport of fencing. The precision and elegance of fencing is fused with pop colors for a fresh and vivid visual language.

The accuracy of the combat sport, the strict line of the uniform, are suggested through rigid compositions. Images focus on sophisticated, white tailored silhouettes which echo the fencing uniform juxtaposed with bold pop shades of yellow, red and blue. It is this fusion of tailoring and sportswear which are at the core of SLVR.

The video extends this idea whilst introducing the dynamic moves of a fencer set to a beat which is reminiscent of the sport’s rhythm.

THE ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION X SUPER SUNGLASSES

Italian eyewear purveyor SUPER recently worked with the Elton John AIDS Foundation on this limited run of sunglasses. Zeiss lenses are featured on this pair alongside a layer of Italian white leather covering the frame matched with matte silver arms. Signature markings adorn the sunglasses, which are set to sell exclusively at the EJAF White & Tiara Ball auction in June 2012. The charity looks forward to adding to the over £40 million it has already contributed toward the fight against AIDS.

PETA PSA: STELLA MCCARTNEY SPEAKS OUT AGAINST LEATHER

Vegetarians and vegans have coveted Stella McCartney’s shoes and purses for years, and it’s not just because of her beautiful designs. McCartney doesn’t use a drop of animal skin in her products. That includes fur and leather. Now, just in time for New York fashion week, the designer is speaking out and telling the public why animal lovers should avoid wearing all skins.

McCartney says in the video:

If you’re like me, you’ve sworn off fur because you know about the gruesome ways animals suffer and die for fur fashions. And what about leather? That’s something people don’t think about as much. Anyone who cares about animals or the environment should become informed consumers on this issue.

The daughter of the vegetarian Beatle is asking the public to take the pledge to go leather free. You can sign up on PETA’s page and opt to go faux.

McCartney says:

Please join me in exploring the huge variety of fashionable shoes, belts, purses and wallets that aren’t the products of a cow’s violent death.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN FORCES YOU TO DIG ECO WITH THE HAVANA TRASH MEN’S FLAT

Previously only available to women, the famed ‘trash’ collection is finally being offered on the men’s side in the brand’s 2012 spring/summer collection. At first, the Christian Louboutin Havana Trash Men’s Flat might look as though it were inspired by an abstract painting. The colors, strokes and patterns are so artistically rendered, it is only natural that would be the case. Nevertheless, this shoe is inspired by the eco movement.

Staying true to its name, the pattern on the multicolor Havana Trash Flat is made up of repurposed bits of trash, including shoe boxes, envelopes, and postage, found in the French designer’s factory. According to Louboutin’s website,

Female Loubi Lovers have fawned over numerous trash styles that have made appearances in collections for decades past. Gentlemen your time has come.

Because of the materials used, each pair of Christian Louboutin Havana Trash Men’s Flat are exclusively unique.

ADIDAS ECO LINE ‘SLVR’ LAUNCHES BERLIN STORE

Eco-fashion doesn’t necessarily mean hemp fabrics and recycled denim. Going green in the clothing industry can also stand for new creative solutions in the design and production process to reduce its complexity and waste. One brand that is at the forefront of eco-lifestyle is German label Adidas. The sports heavy weight launched an affordable and fashionable clothing label called SLVR in 2009, which is short for Adidas Silver Label. SLVR uses sustainable organic cotton, soybean fabric, coated natural canvas and boasts a unique approach in craftsmanship.

Now with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in town it seems only appropriate that adidas has announced that they will be opening the doors at their first ever SLVR flagship store in Berlin. This weekend I took my new Puma Eco Suedes out for a test “fly.” I haven’t owned a pair of Pumas for a minute! But I’ve always been a huge fan of their classics, and as soon as I found a pair of the eco suedes in red, I knew I had to have them. Back in the late 60s, the PUMA Suede was worn by athletic greats and b-boys alike. And to this day, it remains Puma’s most epic icon of sport-inspired style, with its suede silhouette and streetwise swagger. So what makes this sneaker green?

This version gives a distinct nod to the future with its Eco OrthoLite® sockliner and laces made from recycled materials. And of course it comes in Puma’s “clever little bag” – in case you aren’t familiar, all Pumas are now sold in 100% recycled shoe boxes.

Ok so let me introduce you to my latest obsession: ECO by MODO. Even just saying the brand name is kind of fun! As someone who is practically blind, I appreciate a new eyewear line that does it right! And to top it off, a sustainable one? Say no more!

The Modo ECO (Earth Conscious Optics) line is an eyewear collection marked by “firsts.” It’s the first optical and sunglass collection to be made entirely of recycled materials. TALK THAT TALK: PUMA TO LAUNCH COMPOSTABLE CLOTHING

Puma has transformed the concept of the shoebox with it’s recyclable boxes, turned plastic packaging on its head, even overhauled its signature suede sneaker. But the German sportswear manufacturer has its sights on a loftier goal, a line of apparel and footwear that would be content to retire among coffee grounds, eggshells, and carrot peels.

We are confident that in the near future we will be able to bring the first shoes, T-shirts, and bags that are either compostable or recyclable to the market,

Franz Koch, Puma’s CEO, told German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche on Friday.

Puma is working with external partners to develop products based on cradle-to-cradle principles, according to Koch, who succeeded Jochen Zeitz in April.

Sustainability, Koch said, can be approached either in one of two ways: the technical (say, the use of recycled tires for soles) or the biological. In the biological cycle, I can make shoes and shirts that are compostable so I can shred them and bury them in the back garden, he added. We are working on products that meet these two criteria.

We look forward to hearing more about this exciting new venture for Puma!
