Blowing into the Windy City’s Wicker Park neighborhood this weekend is Chicago’s Green Music Fest. Over 20,000 attendants are expected to eat local, drink plenty and dance crazy to the music of The Thermals, Trampled by Turtles and Yo La Tengo. In 2010, the Mother Nature Network name Chicago the 9th Greenest City in America. This year, Chicago has stepped up it’s Green Initiative planting over 500,000 new trees throughout the city. New Mayor Rahm Emanuel has made it a goal to promote urban farming by cutting zoning laws and improving accessibility and funding for Chicago’s public transportation system. We’ll be celebrating alongside local over 70 Chicago vendors and environmental enthusiasts. The Green Music Festival has worked closely with the Chicago Department of Environment and the Center for Green Technology to create an exceptionally green weekend. They’ve even made sure all vendor’s generators are fueled with biodiesel fuel. Even the cups you’ll be drinking out of are from ethanol, not Styrofoam. Visitors and participants are in for an exciting treat, and, at only $5 a ticket, anyone can join in on the festivities.
